What is the difference between a private-school scholarship and a bursary?
A scholarship recognises ability, for example academic, music, art or sporting talent. A bursary assesses financial need. A scholarship may offer enrichment or a development grant without reducing fees. Each school sets its own rules, including whether both awards can be held.
Can a bursary cover 100% of independent-school fees?
Some schools offer full fee assistance, subject to financial assessment, selection and available funds. A maximum percentage is not a promise to an applicant. Confirm separately whether boarding, meals, uniform, travel, trips and equipment are included.
When should we apply for 11+, 13+ or sixth-form awards?
Use the dates for the child’s intended entry year and award. Registration, scholarship applications, bursary forms and assessments can have different deadlines, often before the admission year. Do not treat an assessment day as an application deadline.
Can international families apply for school scholarships and bursaries?
There is no single UK-wide entitlement. Check each school’s residence, nationality, day or boarding and financial-assessment conditions. Being able to apply for a school place does not mean a bursary is available. Where conditions are unclear, Linkuble labels them for confirmation.
Does winning a scholarship automatically reduce school fees?
No. Bristol Grammar School explicitly distinguishes its scholarship development awards from means-tested fee assistance. Other schools use different arrangements. Read the actual financial benefit rather than inferring it from the word scholarship.
Are bursaries renewed automatically?
