Make a Requirements List
Start with the current course or vacancy page. Note required qualifications, documents, references, language evidence, deadlines and submission route. Distinguish requirements you meet from evidence you still need to provide.
Show Relevant Evidence
Connect experience to the research: the problem you investigated, the method you used, your own contribution and what you learned. For an employment application, map examples to the advertised criteria. Keep publications, training and work in progress accurately labelled.
Check Before Submitting
UCL’s research application guidance includes proposal and supporting-document requirements, and explains that changes after submission are limited. Follow your chosen institution’s rules. Ask referees early, check that documents open correctly and verify whether the funding application is separate.
Your Next-Step Checklist
- Create one checklist per application route.
- Use concrete evidence of your research experience.
- Check documents, references and funding forms before submission.
