Separate Fees and Living Costs
A fee contribution and a living-cost stipend meet different costs. Ask whether an award covers your tuition rate, which expenses remain yours and how many months of support are offered. Overseas-fee coverage must be confirmed separately from a Home-rate contribution.
Check the Current UKRI Benchmark
From 1 October 2026, UKRI’s minimum full-time stipend is £21,805; the minimum with London weighting is £23,805 where applicable. EPSRC does not offer London weighting. UKRI contributes up to Home-rate fees, so an international student may have a fee gap. These terms do not establish that any particular project has a UKRI award.
Read the Offer Before Accepting
UKRI students apply through a university or research provider. UKRI does not pay student visa or immigration health surcharge costs. Confirm the amount, duration and exclusions in the provider’s written offer before planning your budget.
Your Next-Step Checklist
- Ask for annual stipend and funded months.
- Confirm whether your full tuition rate is covered.
- List excluded personal costs, including visas where relevant.
- Check admission and award acceptance deadlines separately.
